How to Get Glass Skin Under the Australian Sun

The ‘glass skin’ trend is all about creating a complexion that looks so luminous, smooth, and firm that it almost appears clear - you guessed it - like glass. Instead of using heavy-hitting actives, this method prioritises gentle maintenance, lasting hydration, and ongoing skin health. Read on to learn more about how to get glass skin, the Skinstitut® way.

Cleanse

Start your glass skin routine by double cleansing – once with an oil-based cleanser, then with a foaming cleanser. This two-part step helps lift surface oil, then gently rinse it all away to leave your skin feeling fresh and soft. It’s particularly effective for removing any remaining sunscreen (which of course you wear daily), surface oil, makeup, and impurities.

Try: Expert Replenish Squalane Cleansing Oil (first cleanse), then Gentle Cleanser, L-Lactic Cleanser, or Glycolic Cleanser 12% (second cleanse).

Exfoliate

One of the hallmarks of glass skin is a smooth, nearly poreless appearance. While you can’t shrink your pores altogether, gentle exfoliation can assist with decongesting and reducing their appearance. Striking the right balance is key: start exfoliating once a week and only gradually increase to two or three times a week if your skin tolerates it. Any more than that and you risk over-exfoliating (which could lead to dryness, dehydration, or a compromised skin barrier).

Try: Glycolic Scrub 14%, Enzymatic Micro Peel, or Expert Glycolic Refining Solution.

Target

Living in Australia’s harsh environment means many of us experience skin concerns like dullness, uneven skin tone, and premature signs of ageing. Aside from wearing sunscreen daily, using an antioxidant-rich serum is one of the best skincare steps to help encourage a visibly brighter complexion. Antioxidative ingredients like Vitamin C and Niacinamide are known to contribute to a more uniform skin appearance and support long-term luminosity.

Try: Even Blend Serum, 10% Vitamin C Super Serum, or 10% Niacinamide Power Serum.

Hydrate

Achieve that coveted glassy look by hydrating your skin with a dewy, plumping serum. Apply a layer of our 1% Hyaluronic Complex Serum using gentle pressing and patting motions until fully absorbed. Lock in this hit of Hyaluronic Acid hydration with a moisturiser suited to your skin type.

Try:

  •           Dry or dehydrated skin: Moisture Defence – Ultra Dry Skin or Expert Restore Niacinamide Replenishing Cream,
  •       Oily or combination skin: Moisture Defence – Oily Skin or Vitamin C Ceramide Moisturiser,
  •        Normal skin: Moisture Defence – Normal Skin, Vitamin C Ceramide Moisturiser, or Expert Restore Niacinamide Replenishing Cream.

Protect

When living in Australia, no skincare routine is complete without adequate sun protection. Our Face The Day SPF 50+ and Age Defence SPF 50+ sunscreens provide UVA and UVB broad-spectrum protection, complete with a hydrating finish that doesn’t feel sticky. As well as applying sunscreen daily, ensure you also:

  •        Wear a hat, sunglasses, and protective clothing, seek shade, and avoid prolonged sun exposure,
  •        Apply at least one teaspoon (5ml) to each area of your body, i.e. face and neck, each arm and leg, chest and torso, back,
  •        Reapply regularly, especially after swimming, exercise or perspiration,
  •        Always follow the directions on the label.

Try: Face The Day SPF 50+ or Age Defence SPF 50+.
