Let the record show we love facial sunscreen. Not only is it essential in protecting against skin cancer, it also prevents unwanted signs of premature ageing — think deep wrinkles, pigmentation, redness and loss of elasticity.
Think about it this way: you could use all the serums, exfoliants and moisturisers in the world, but without daily sunscreen, your efforts are likely to be in vain.
Age Defence SPF 50+ has always been our go-to, but we get that not every skin type is best-suited to a creamy, nourishing SPF formula. So, without further ado, we’re thrilled to introduce Face The Day, the lightweight, oil-free, highly protective facial sunscreen you’ve been dreaming of (and, DMing us for!)
Read on to find out more about the formula, the UV filters used to protect your skin, and tips on how to get the most out of this ground-breaking new sunscreen.
But First, A Word On Sun Safety…
We said it once, but we’ll say it again: a great facial sunscreen really is the most important skincare product you can use.
We’re firm believers in a broad-spectrum formula, which provides protection against both UVA and UVB rays – UVB rays are the ones that can cause burning and potentially skin cancer, while UVA rays cause skin to age and wrinkle.
The sun protection factor (SPF) of sunscreen relates to the amount of UV protection it provides. Both Skinstitut sunscreens have a sun protection factor of 50+ because even though it might seem like there’s not a lot of difference between 30+ and 50+, sun damage is cumulative – it builds up over time. For example, a sun protection factor of 30 allows about 1 per cent more UV radiation to impact the skin as opposed to 50+, which adds up quickly over the course of a lifetime.
Meet Face The Day
Face The Day is a broad-spectrum facial sunscreen formulated with a patented chemical formula designed to protect your skin from UV rays. Weightless, and oil-free, not only is it a delight to wear, it’s chock full of additional skin benefits.
What’s the formula?
In a word, the formula is undetectable!
Face The Day is oil-free and supremely lightweight, making it perfect for normal to oily complexions, or anyone who hates that sticky, greasy sunscreen feeling (we hear you). The lotion-texture glides on like a dream, before drying down to a matte finish.
Plus, if you’re scared of sunscreen or have had less-than-ideal experiences in the past, rest assured Face The Day is quickly absorbed and non-ghosting, so you won’t need to rub it in forever or run the risk of ending up with a chalky, white look on your skin.
What’s inside?
Face The Day is a chemical-based sunscreen that uses a UV filter called Tinosorb S & M. Tinosorb S & M is a dual filter that’s known to be highly stable and comfortable on the skin.
It offers optimal protection from both UVA and UVB rays, as well as blue light. Blue light refers to the light omitted from our screens – this has been shown to cause free-radical damage, which dulls the complexion and is something we’d much rather avoid!
We’ve also included humectants Hexanediol and Butylene Glycol for moisture retention, and Tapioca Starch to prevent shine, so you can expect a matte finish but ample skin-conditioning benefits.
Is it right for my skin type?
If you have normal to oily skin, are blemish-prone, sensitive, or just love a matte finish, absolutely! However, if your skin is dry and you prefer a creamy formulation, chances are you will prefer the original Age Defence SPF 50+.
How should I be using it?
Sunscreen should always be the final step in your morning skincare routine. The beauty of Face The Day is that it’s a brilliant base for makeup – just wait a minute or two before going in with your foundation.
And because sun safety is no joke, be sure to reapply if you’re swimming, sweating, exercising or outside for an extended period.
Skinstitut Face The Day SPF 50+ Very High Protection Lotion: ALWAYS READ THE LABEL AND FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS FOR USE. Avoid prolonged exposure in the sun. Wear protective clothing, hats and eyewear when exposed to the sun.
